...Astrology... Astrology
involves observing the cosmos to predict affairs that take place on the
earth. Astrologers look at stars, the sun, the planets and our moon to
develop these predictions.
It is debatable whether astrology is considered a science or something metaphysical. Many people don’t believe in astrology anymore. Although it has been called “the mother of all sciences.” Instead of thinking about astrology as something mystical that makes predictions, think of it more as a blueprint that helps to explain life. A major part of using astrology, when it comes to reading your chart, is having your exact date of birth and the exact time you were born. Astrology is actually quite involved and there are many aspects that most people generally don’t even know about. Personally some of it is confusing to me so I will only be discussing the better-known aspects of astrology. Therefore, I would suggest that if you would like to obtain more information that you consult a website with more expertise in the subject. I merely explain the more well known, in what I hope is a more simple approach. The Zodiac The
most well known aspect of astrology is the Zodiac. The Zodiac is
the name given to the elliptic around the earth. Basically, the
elliptic is the path that we view from earth, in which the sun moves
across the sky. The elliptic was divided into 12 parts, correlating
with 12 constellations that the sun lines up with as it moves through
the sky.
The term Zodiac, in ancient Greek, translates to “circle of animals” because most of the 12 constellations represent an animal. Each constellation was given a name. They are (in order) Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, and Pisces. These are called Sun signs. Each of the sun signs has certain qualities attached to them. These qualities generally come from the constellation that they represent. They describe the personality of the person who is born under that sign. For example, Taurus is the sign of the bull and they tend to be practical, sensual and very stubborn. Because the sun’s path through the sky stays almost constant, it can generally be found in the same position, on the same day of every year. This makes determining your Sun Sign very easy; all you need is your date of birth. Even though astrology can be very accurate, it is not an exact science and does not attach you to the personality traits of your sun sign. Nor does it foretell everything about you. Each of the sun signs is also classified by one of the Four Elements and one of the Three Qualities. These classifications are the basic nature or temperament of a sign. The Elements The
Four Elements are fire, water, earth, and air. They describe the
“human core characteristics.” The elements distribute the signs into
groups of three called Triplicities. Even though the elements explain
our basic nature, when we combine them overall with our astrological
chart, they really identify us as a complete person. For example, if
you have an abundance of the water element in your chart you might be
very sensitive and tend to be overindulgent. If you have an abundance
of the air element in your chart you might be very intelligent and an
excellent communicator.
Fire – (physical) – Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius Water – (emotional) – Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces Earth – (practical) – Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn Air – (intellectual) – Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius The Qualities The
Three Qualities are Cardinal, Fixed and Mutable. They reflect the
“three common modes of Signs.” The Qualities distribute the Signs into
groups of four called Quadruplicities. The Quality explains a person's
viewpoint in life and the way they approach projects. Signs that belong
to the same quality generally don’t interact to well together.
Cardinal – (action, drive, initiative, strong motivation.) Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn Fixed – (determination, persistence, stable, self-reliant) Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius Mutable – (adaptability, changeability, flexible, versatile) Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces The
Elements and Qualities are extremely helpful when reading a chart.
They really allow you to see what motivates a person. The combination
of these classifications makes the signs what they are.
The Planets The
10 planets (and the Sun and Moon) play a major role in astrology,
including the Sun and the moon, which are also called luminaries. The
planets have an energy that influences us every day of our lives. What
really matters is what we do with that energy. The planets all move at
different speeds, some are much faster than others; it all depends on
how close they are to the Sun. The fastest moving planets are Mercury,
Venus and Mars (our moon moves pretty fast as well). They are most
often referred to as the inner planets because they “speak” to the
inner person.
Each of the planets rules a certain sign of the zodiac. The individual planets tend to radiate their energy with more power over the sign they rule. This is sometimes referred to as the sign of its dignity. There is also a second sign that each planet connects with as well. This is sometimes referred to as the sign of its exaltation. The planets movements are classified and these classifications are very important when it comes to the energy they give off. A planet can be stationary, direct or retrograde. A planet that is stationary gives of a very focused energy. A planet that is direct also has a strong command. When a planet is retrograde, that is not always a good thing. The energy they give off is very unfocused and can definitely mix things up considerably. The Houses Each
sign of the Zodiac is assigned to a “House.” Respectively there
are twelve houses and each have a place on the astrological chart
wheel. Each House in the chart has a corresponding “time position.” The
First House being in the nine o’clock position, the Second House is in
the eight o’clock position, etc. These houses deal with different
aspects of our life, most often dealing with the outside influences
rather than the self. The Houses generally have similar qualities to
the signs that they are assigned to, as well as the planets that pass
through them. If you take into consideration the placement of the
planets and signs in the various houses according to your chart, you
may have a better understanding of yourself.
The Houses correspond with the signs in order of their appearance on the wheel. Aries first, and Pisces last. Any of the signs can visit any of the Houses and add its own personality traits to it. That is all based on the time, the date and the place you were born. First House - Aries Second House - Taurus Third House - Gemini Fourth House - Cancer Fifth House - Leo Sixth House - Virgo Seventh House - Libra Eighth House - Scorpio Ninth House - Sagittarius Tenth House - Capricorn Eleventh House - Aquarius Twelfth House - Pisces There
are many more aspects of Astrology not covered here, so please if
you would like more information, there is more than plenty at your
fingertips on the Internet.
